Simpson’s rule is used to find the approximate area under a graph. Since integration between two limits also gives the area under a graph then Simpson’s rule can often be used as a way of finding an approximate value of a definite integral. It is an improvement on the trapezium rule as it uses a parabola rather than a straight line between intervals as an an approximation to the curve.
