Probability Tree Diagrams
Tree Diagrams are useful for working with probability and permutations and combinations. In this video I introduce you to this type of diagram and how we show various outcomes for three different models which you should be able to adapt as examples for different models that you may encounter.
In the previous video in this series, I showed you how to draw a tree diagram. Now I extend this to probability tree diagrams and discuss independent events.
Now that you can draw probability tree diagrams, I now show you how to combine probabilities to evaluate the probabilities of combined outcomes using the ‘and’ rule and mutually exclusive events, the ‘or’ rule.
You should already be familiar with drawing probability tree diagrams for independent events but now I look at dependent events where the probability of one event depends on the probability of the previous event. I introduce you to new notation which I would encourage you to do as it will help with conditional probability at a later stage and help avoid common errors.
